I don’t remember joining any spelling bee during my school days. I can spell bicycle, but for sure, I won’t be able to spell catarjunes correctly as what Rajo Laurel did.
Last Friday night, I went to RCBC Plaza and just wished for any available tickets. As I arrived at the venue, the tickets left were already reserved and the guys at the reception, who kept on speaking in oh-so-fluent-English even if I intentionally kept on speaking oh-so-barok-Tagalog, asked me to go back after 30 minutes that if any of the tickets will not be claimed, they can then sell them to other patrons. And so I came back after 30 minutes, after eating the thirty-six-peso-jumbo-hotdog-sandwich-meal at 7–11 which made my stomach full. I easily get full these days, I wonder why?!
The 1100 peso ticket is too expensive for the frugal me, but I am willing to pay for it just so I can watch a musical for the first second time. Good thing, some good guy gave back a reserved 500 peso ticket. So the guys who speak in oh-so-fluent-English called me and with no second thoughts, I immediately paid for the ticket.
Having that ticket was my favorite moment Beefore the Bee.
I had fun watching The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
I liked the girl who sang The I Love You Song.
Oh, I remember, her name is Olive and that if you change the first two vowels of her name it will be ilove.
The beautiful lady who played Olive was Carla Guevarra.
Oh, My name is Niño. And if I change the first two vowels of my name it will be Noñi. Nyahahaha!
I also liked the guest spellers from the audience. I find it funny that they were given easy words to spell like lamb, silver and runway and that the other spellers would complain as they sing Life is Pandemonium. Though Rajo Laurel was the only person I know out of the four guests. I just learned that Lea Salonga and Jet Pangan also took turns as guest spellers on an earlier play date.
I also liked the part where the spellers would ask the definition of the word and its usage in a sentence. The one I remember was the word lamb. When used in a sentence, Sick of having turkey, Mary had a little lamb.
Rona Lisa Peretti’s favorite moment of the bee is right before it starts. As for me, I’d say it’s when Olive, her parents, and Mr. Panch sang The I Love You Song.

may i know your name?!
